Beatnik, the newest restaurant from the Bonhomme Hospitality Group, opened its doors this past summer in Ukrainian Village with Executive Chef Marcos Campos and Chef de Cuisine Joseph Hejtmanek heading the kitchen. While there’s been quite a few trendy restaurant openings in this area, Beatnik is unlike any other. From the wide array of cuisines to the décor, Beatnik is truly one-of-a-kind.

Uncle Mike’s Place, a family-owned diner, is situated in a quiet part of West Town. They serve Filipino-American breakfasts and classic American diner food. Started as a classic diner in 1991, the place evolved after Uncle Mike started serving recipes inspired by his Filipina mother-in-law. Uncle Mike’s Place has since become one of the best places to get Filipino food in Chicago.

When I have to choose between grilled or fried chicken, I put on my stretchy pants and pick fried chicken all day, every day. There is nothing like a superb piece of fried chicken with a thin layer of extra crispy batter and a juicy center. Even better, I love fried chicken sandwiches. When combined with the right seasoning, fresh vegetables, and the perfect bun, it is the ultimate comfort food that warms my inner Southern heart and soul….
