Chicago’s North Shore Convention & Visitor’s Bureau is celebrating their 10th year of North Shore Restaurant Month. Every year, participating restaurants in the North Shore offer special dining deals for the whole month of February, except Valentine’s Day. Offers include 15% off guest check, FREE appetizer or dessert with a purchase of an entrée, and special prix fixe menus. The history of Currency Exchange Cafe is in its name. The cafe’s space is repurposed from an actual currency exchange and retains many of the original hand-painted signs and remnants of its former life. Located in Washington Park by the Garfield Green Line station, the cafe strives to reflect the local culinary character of its neighborhood, serving a variety of Southern Soul and Mexican food. Currency Exchange Cafe is part of the Washington Park Arts Block, a collaboration with the University of Chicago aimed to engage local residents in art, entertainment, and education. The Arts Block also includes BING Art Books, the Arts Incubator, and the proposed Green Line Arts Center.

What a year it’s been! Lots of questionable and unfortunate things have happened in 2016, but Chicago’s food scene has continued to truck on (pun intended). I’ve been very grateful to be able to explore in greater depth the amazing food that Chicago has to offer, starting with Instagram back in spring and being so lucky to join the Fab Food Chicago team this past October. Lincoln Park has a thriving and diverse food scene. There are always new eateries and restaurants to discover. I truly believe that one could never get bored of eating out in Lincoln Park. One of the best parts about Lincoln Park, in my opinion, is that it is home to my alma-matter – DePaul University. The holidays are my favorite time of the year, and in Chicago, the holidays are truly magical. When I have to choose between grilled or fried chicken, I put on my stretchy pants and pick fried chicken all day, every day. There is nothing like a superb piece of fried chicken with a thin layer of extra crispy batter and a juicy center. Even better, I love fried chicken sandwiches. When combined with the right seasoning, fresh vegetables, and the perfect bun, it is the ultimate comfort food that warms my inner Southern heart and soul….

Italian food is my favorite type of comfort food. I mean what sounds better than pastas, meatballs, cannolis, and more? Because of my immense love for Italian food, I was definitely thrilled when the Fab Food team got a chance to visit Viaggio in the West Loop. It was an Italian feast unlike any other.
