The holidays are just around the corner. If you’re like me, you are getting yourself ready to indulge in copious amounts of food. I personally like to balance it out by eating a little healthier when I know I have days of non-stop eating coming up. That’s why I wanted to share my golden green smoothie with you all.
It’s a recipe that includes healthy fats and antioxidants to get you ready for all the gluttony that is to come. Matcha became one of my favorite things after my trips to Japan. The aroma of the tea and the bitterness of the powder is so captivating. With me being half Vietnamese, it’s only natural that avocado smoothies are part of my diet. I grew up drinking sinh to bo (avocado shakes). I decided to combine the two to make a divine combination, packed with benefits. Check out my recipe below!
- 1 whole avocado (One is about 4-5 inches in height, should fit in your hand)
- 1 stem of kale (With leaf, roughly ¼ cup of kale)
- 1 golden delicious apple (Should fit in the palm of your hand)
- 1 cup of ice (Use whole pieces of ice rather than crushed ice if you want a smoother consistency and less ice clumps)
- ½ cup of 2% milk (Feel free to substitute for your milk of choice. Almond milk gives it a great nutty taste.)
- 3 tablespoons of hot water
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of matcha (My brand of choice is Yamashiro Uji Matcha)
- Slice the avocado lengthwise around the pit, keeping the seed intact. Twist to pull apart the two sides of the avocado. Take the side with the pit and put it in plastic wrap and place in refrigerator for later use. We will only be using half of the avocado for one serving.
- Scoop out the avocado that you will be using into the blender.
- Rinse kale stem and leaf. Add to blender.
- Cut apple in half, taking out the seeds and add to blend. Put other half in plastic wrap and place into the refrigerator.
- Add one cup of ice.
- Add half a cup of milk.
- Using a small bowl, mix the honey with a tablespoon of hot water making sure the honey is thoroughly dissolved. Add to blender.
- In another small bowl mix the tablespoon of matcha with the remaining hot water, making sure there are no clumps of matcha. Add to blender.
- Blend for 30 seconds to a minute or until desired consistency. I love my smoothies to be smooth with no ice bits.
- Pour into your cup of choice and enjoy!
You can always add more honey for a sweeter smoothie or more matcha for a deeper taste. I didn’t use protein in this smoothie, but it is a good option. Did it work for you as well? I would love to hear what substitutes work and didn’t work for you. Try out the recipe and let me know in the comments!
Until the next venture!
With love,
Van
