Summer is my favorite season of the year because almost every weekend is filled with either a music or street festival. This past weekend was Lollapalooza and it did not disappoint. What’s not to love about warm weather, live music, and incredible food?
I admit, I’m a little obsessed with music festivals. I’ve been to a few this year to say the least. Lollapalooza is one of my favorites because not only did I get to listen to some of the greatest bands in one place, I also got to eat a lot of delicious food at Chow Town.
Soo (@fabsoopark) and I ate and ate and ate some more. I can’t stop thinking about all the amazing food Fab Food Chicago tried. Here are the “Top 10 Things We Ate at Lollapalooza”…
10. Brownie Ice Cream Sundae from Windsor Ice Cream Shoppe
What better way to cool down on a humid summer day than with a brownie ice cream sundae? The Brownie Ice Cream Sundae was made with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and brownies, then topped with whipped cream and a cherry. While the brownie was a little frozen and hard, it still made a great summer treat. Windsor Ice Cream Shoppe has been serving their creations at Lollapalooza for seven years.

9. Popper Grilled Cheese from Cheesie’s Pub & Grub
A restaurant that specializes in a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches is always good in my book. The Popper Grilled Cheese sandwich from Cheesie’s Pub & Grub was filled with melted cheddar, cream cheese, cheddar cheese sauce, bacon, and jalapeño on sourdough bread.

8. Bacon Mac ‘n’ Cheese Dog from Franks ‘n’ Dawgs
After six years in business, Franks ‘n’ Dawgs recently closed its doors, making Lollapalooza the last chance to try one of their creative, gourmet hot dogs. The Bacon Mac ‘n’ Cheese Dog had bacon pepper sausage topped with truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, and thyme on a brioche roll. The truffle mac ‘n’ cheese was creamy and paired perfectly with the bacon pepper sausage and the buttery brioche roll.
7. Deep Dish Pizza from Lou Malnati’s
When you think of Chicago, you think deep dish pizza. It’s good to know there was a Chicago staple as a go-to at the festival. Our personal favorite was the deep dish pepperoni pizza from Lou Malnati’s because of the gooey cheese and crispy crust.

6. Chicken & Waffles from MAD Social
MAD Social’s Chicken & Waffles is one of our favorite things to eat for brunch so we had to get it at Lollapalooza. Their version has an unique twist. The waffle is made with churro batter, then topped with fried chicken Milanese, a slice of pork belly, and powdered sugar.
FAB TIP: Select bottles of wine and charcuterie boards are half-off on Mondays-Saturdays from 4-6 p.m.

5. Rainbow Cone from Original Rainbow Cone
You can never go wrong with the Rainbow Cone. The different flavors of ice cream cone may seem like a lot with the orange sherbet, pistachio, strawberry, chocolate, and New York vanilla with walnuts and cherries…but the richness and ratio of each layer works well together. The line was long, but it was worth the wait.

4. Cookies and Crack Pie from Milk Bar
It was nice to have a little piece of New York in Chicago. Milk Bar is known for their compost cookie and crack pie. Since we don’t have a Milk Bar in Chicago, it was a no-brainer that we had to get it at Lollapalooza. The cookies are soft and chewy and come in a variety of flavors. Our favorite was the Cornflake Chocolate Chip Marshmallow Cookie. The slight crunchiness from the cornflakes and the creaminess of the marshmallow were divine.
The Crack Pie also lived up to its name. The combination of sweet and salty with the butter filling made it highly addictive.
Thanks, Milk Bar for the delicious treats!
FAB TIP: While these were only available in Chicago during Lollapalooza, they can be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the U.S. from Milk Bar.
3. Jalapeño & Cheddar Sausage Corndog from Greenridge Farm
Greenridge Farm is technically not a restaurant but served one of our favorite bites. They are a family-owned business who simply produce natural deli meat, sausages, and cheeses. The meats are hand-crafted and naturally-smoked using high quality ingredients. Chef Graham Elliot, Partnering Chef, created this magnificent recipe using their sausage, which is made in small batches daily to ensure freshness and preserve the authentic European flavor.

2. Lobster Corndog from Graham Elliot Bistro
If you’ve been to Lollapalooza, you’d know about Graham Elliot’s famous lobster corndog. It is definitely a crowd favorite and one of ours. The crispy, sweet corn batter is filled with chunks of tender lobster meat, then topped with lemon aioli, paprika, and chopped herbs.

1. Gyro and Greek Fries from The Purple Pig
It is always exciting when new food vendors are added to Chow Town. We were thrilled to see The Purple Pig for the first time at the festival. The house-made gyro by Chef Jimmy Bannos Jr, which is not available on their regular menu was our favorite thing to eat at Lollapalooza. It was served on a warm pita with tomatoes, lettuce, and copious amounts of cool and refreshing tzatziki sauce. We loved the tzatzki sauce so much we ordered a side order of Greek fries, so we can have more.

We can’t forget about the exquisite, first-class experience we had at the Galaxy Lounge with Samsung and Infatuation. We enjoyed great company and fantastic eats from various restaurants including these Peanut Butter Cupcake in a cone from Publican Chicago.
By the way, all our Lollapalooza pictures were taken on the #GalaxyS7 Edge. Living the #GalaxyLife.
We’re sad Lollapalooza 2016 has come to an end, but we can’t wait to see what next year has in store!
