The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck arrived in Chicago yesterday and the cuteness is hard to handle. This weekend only (8/13-8/14), the Hello Kitty Cafe truck will be parked in the roundabout by Urban Outfitters at Oakbrook Center, between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sweet treats, adorable merchandise, and pink bows…I was in kitty heaven.
I have been a Hello Kitty fan since…uhm, FOREVER! Admittedly, I have a separate closet space in my house for all my Hello Kitty “things”. Over the years, I have collected pencils, pens, staplers, notebooks, stickers, mugs, cell phone covers, headbands, earrings, necklaces, watches, rings, eye glasses, etc. But wait, there’s more! A toaster because who doesn’t need toast with Hello Kitty’s face on it? Rice cooker? Yup, I have one. Not to mention all the gear and pjs. OK, you get the picture.
When I heard the first U.S. based Hello Kitty pop-up cafe opened in Irvine, California last month, I immediately freaked out. Then when I heard the truck was coming to Chicago, I just about lost it. And, I wasn’t the only one.
Thousands of people lined up at Oakbrook Center yesterday to get their hands on some delectable Hello Kitty pastries and darling merch. I am sure thousands will line up today so you’d better hurry, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck has been making an appearance at various festivals and events across the U.S. since its official debut at Hello Kitty Con in October 2014.
It is the first time in Chicago but hopefully not the last.
The Hello Kitty Pop-Up Container is located at the Irvine Spectrum Center in California and will be open until July 2017. The idea was born to spread the message of happiness, friendship, and fun through their delightful treats and drinks featuring Hello Kitty and her other character friends. Please note the menu offered at the pop-up is completely different from the truck.
Here’s what the Chicago truck menu looks like. I pretty much went through the list minus a couple of items. Hello Kitty Bow Water. Check. Hello Kitty 3pc Cookie Set. Check. I may have gotten 3 boxes. Hello Kitty 3 pc Donut Box. They ran out by 11 a.m. Nooooo! Hello Kitty Cafe Coffee Mug. Check. Hello Kitty Petit 4 Cakes. Check. Hello Kitty 5 pc Macaron Box. Check. Hello Kitty Cafe T-Shirt. No, because I was more focused on the food. #thestruggleisreal
The 3 pc cookie set includes this lovable Hello Kitty shaped doughnut-style cookie, a bright pink bow, and…
Hello Kitty herself. I mean, how can you resist this face?
The macarons come in 5 pieces. One of the five has her charming face stamped on it while the other four…
…have cute bows on them. Obviously, the bows are pink and red. The flavors are strawberry, green tea, oolong, yuzu, and orange.
The petit fours taste like cake pops. The cake itself is on the denser side and the outside is covered in white chocolate. Flavors include vanilla, strawberry, blueberry, and lemon.
Along with the pastries, they are selling t-shirts and mugs.
The design of the mug goes along with the theme of the truck so it is the perfect keepsake.
I. CAN’T. EVEN. How cute are these?
