BBQ & Blues? Sounds like the perfect way to start the weekend. Get a little taste of Memphis at Corky’s BBQ food truck. They will be serving free (Yes, FREE!) BBQ at the Chicago Blues Fest throughout the day (6/10-6/12) while supplies last.
I’ve never been to Memphis, so I was excited when I heard Tennessee Vacation was bringing some Memphis-style BBQ to Chicago. Not only were they bringing BBQ, they were bringing Corky’s BBQ. Hello…it’s meat.
In the past couple of days, Corky’s BBQ food truck roamed around the streets at various locations in the city. It was hard to miss the colorful truck.
Lisette (@topchicagoeats) and I stopped by on Thursday, at the corner of Adams and Wacker, where they were parked for the morning. It started to rain but a little rain wasn’t going to stop us from getting our first taste of the world-famous Corky’s BBQ. The delicious smell was making my mouth water as I was eagerly waiting in line.
Corky’s IS Memphis BBQ (#MadeinTN). It has been voted the #1 BBQ joint in Memphis 22 times in the past 30+ years. All the meats are slow-cooked over hickory and charcoal. I really wanted to devour the ribs the minute I got my hands on it, but as you know, the phone eats first in my life.
AND…got my picture! Can I eat now?
Corky’s served their dry rub ribs. The dry rub had a nice kick of spiciness and saltiness…and the meat just fell off the bone. Needless to say, I went back for seconds or maybe even thirds. Shhh…don’t tell anyone!
Not only is Memphis known for their delicious BBQ, it is known for the music as well. I mean…it is THE birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll and home of the blues so it’s only fitting that some of Memphis’ best are here this weekend to take the stage at Chicago Blues Fest.
Lucky for us, we didn’t have to wait until the fest to hear some amazing blues. We enjoyed listening to the Southern Avenue Band from Memphis while feasting on BBQ. The band consists of Ori Naftaly (guitar), Daniel McKee (bass), sisters Tierinii Jackson (vocals), and Tikyra Jackson (drums). Their music is soulful and the vocals powerful. Listen for yourself…
I had a fabulous time, getting a glimpse of Memphis. I hope to visit soon to get the full food and music experience and the natural beauty the city has to offer. I will definitely be using Tennessee Vacation as my guide when I visit.
Live the Fab Food Life,
Soo
