Pizza is bae. If I could have pizza everyday at Homeslice, I would be so happy. In a city that specializes in deep dish, Homeslice in Lincoln Park, provides a refreshing and fun spin on the thin-crust pizza scene.
{Ambiance}
Homeslice is definitely a great place to go with your homies. Whether it’s with a group of people or a selected few, Homeslice is a great hangout spot. It can get a little noisy and crowded during peak hours, so I wouldn’t recommend going, if you’re looking for an intimate and quiet night. However, it is the perfect spot if you are looking for a fun and relaxing place to unwind with friends.
The patio and outside seating areas of Homeslice are one of my favorites in the city, for al fresco dining. The back section has lounge seats for larger groups and individual tables for smaller parties. There is also a trailer-style seating area in the back of the restaurant, you can rent out for parties, providing a unique space for your next event.
The outdoor area is located around the corner of the restaurant and filled with wooden tables. The outdoor space has natural lighting during the day and at night, the twinkle string lights, which are draped over the trees, are turned on. In the right weather, it is the ideal place to sit and eat with friends. It’s a great alternative to the indoor area, as far as noise level, but be prepared for the disturbance from the red line train and street traffic. It can be easily overlooked, though, since it never lasts too long.
The atmosphere at Homeslice is definitely casual. It’s a nice pizza place to go when you want to relax and grab drinks in a laid-back environment. They also have TV screens to watch sporting events. However, it gets very busy and packed on game nights so be prepared.
{Food}
The pizza selection at Homeslice is one of the largest I have seen. They offer over 30 pizzas. I’ve made it a personal goal to go through and try all the pizzas at least once. It’s one of those #LifeGoals that is on my to-do list. Their pizzas come in 3 sizes: 10”, 14”, and 18”. The 10” is usually my first choice. It comes in four slices and can be easily shared with friends. That way, you can try out different pizzas!
The pizzas are listed in categories:
The meats – consists of pepperoni, Italian sausage, and Canadian bacon
The bird – all things with blackened chicken
Meat-free – vegetarian options
The pizzas are filled with ingredients that you normally wouldn’t find at a fast-casual pizza place. For example, they include ingredients such as spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, roasted garlic, Kalamata olives, fresh jalapeño, and many more. The combination of these ingredients and the soft and fluffy crust, will cause a party in your mouth, every time you take a bite. They also offer a gluten-free crust option, if desired.
FAB TIP: Since I’m a huge fan of pesto, I usually ask them to substitute the sauce for pesto. You can do this with any pizza for no extra fee!
Besides pizza, Homeslice offers an array of appetizers that are great for sharing, including salads, soups, and calzones. Their calzones are cooked to perfection and has a perfectly crunchy outside and soft inside. My favorite part of the calzone is cutting into it and seeing the cheese ooze out from the inside.
Homeslice also has a special and smaller brunch menu which highlights breakfast dishes such as the breakfast calzones and pizzas. You can add an egg to any pizza, making it suitable for breakfast!
My favorites:
Schria Palin
The Schria Palin pizza is my absolute favorite pizza at Homeslice. Although I’m a little unsure about the pronunciation, it never stops me from ordering it almost every time. The pizza comes with roasted chicken, portabella mushrooms, spinach, roasted garlic, romas, ricotta, mozzarella, provolone, and garlic olive oil. In other words, all my favorite flavors and ingredients are on one pizza. I like to substitute the marinara base for pesto because it makes the flavors of the tomatoes, cheese and portabella pop that much more. However, if you don’t like raw garlic, I would definitely avoid this pizza because the garlic flavor is strong and can be overpowering.
The Bloody Mary
Although the bloody mary is not an actual dish, this is definitely a must-have drink, if you are over 21. The bloody mary is a wonderful thing to have for brunch or early weekend mornings. It’s the perfect flavor combination. You know what makes it even better? It comes garnished with a slice of pizza on top. How could you resist that?
Special-K
And, no, this isn’t the Special-K cereal. Actually, it’s far, far from it . The Special K pizza is a recent discovery of mine. On my quest to conquer all pizzas, I finally gave this one a try and…it was glorious. It comes with Italian sausage, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan, and a spinach/ricotta sauce. You get all the flavors in one bite without it being overwhelming. The creaminess of the spinach/ricotta sauce makes it the perfect savory bite. Definitely the perfect pizza, if you want something filling.
Breadsticks and Goat Cheese
The Breadsticks and Goat Cheese appetizer is one of the simplest dishes on the menu, but yet so delicious. I have to get it every time. The breadsticks are beer-basted and served hot, with an incredible mix of goat cheese marinara sauce for dipping. The consistency of the goat cheese really cuts through every bite and makes the breadsticks taste incredible. This dish has ruined regular breadsticks for me, for life.
{Experience}
With an environment that fosters great time with friends, creative pizzas, flavorful drinks, and delicious appetizers…you really can’t go wrong. They also offer delivery and takeout so you can get quality pizza in the comfort of your own home!
